Serge Lutens — Borneo 1834
Decanting from 2008 bottle (exactly like the one on the image).
Named for the year patchouli first arrived in Paris, hidden inside rolls of Indonesian silk — and this is exactly what that story smells like. Dark, damp, camphoraceous patchouli at full volume, with bitter dark chocolate woven through the heart that reads more cocoa nib than candy bar. A green galbanum edge keeps it from going soft, and a deep labdanum base anchors everything into something resinous and slightly animalic. Not the sweet hippie patchouli of department stores — this is the raw material itself, uncompromising and widely considered the definitive patchouli fragrance in niche perfumery.
Notes:
Top notes: Galbanum, Cardamom, White Flowers
Middle notes: Patchouli, Cacao
Base notes: French Labdanum
