Serge Lutens — Chypre Rouge
Decanting from 2007 bottle (exactly like the one on the image).
One of the more divisive Lutens — and that's saying something. Pine needles and caraway open sharp and herbal, almost medicinal, before honey and beeswax soften everything into something darker and more autumnal. Stewed fruit, toasted nuts, immortelle, and oakmoss all swirl through the heart in a way that reads simultaneously like a forest floor and a spiced dessert. The base of patchouli, amber, and vanilla finally grounds it into something rich and wearable. Inspired by childhood memories of fall in western France — and it smells exactly like that sounds: beautiful, strange, and not for everyone.
